The hospital was built on donated land in 1919 to provide "high class" services in a "high class" neighborhood. There were additions over the years. The buildings meets the criteria of ss. e-1, e-5, e-6, per the staff. Ald. Bauman moved to open a public hearing. There were no objections. Melissa Spadanuda - Associate Vice Chancellor Facilities Planning and Management Cate Miller - nominator Jeremy Ebersole - Milwaukee Preservation Alliance - supports the designation Ald. Kovac - has nothing new to add since the temporary designation. It's a clear cut decision for designation. Ald. Bauman moved to close the public hearing.	Pass	6:0

Whereas, The Milwaukee Historic Preservation Ordinance, s. 320-21 of the Code of Ordinances, provides that historic sites, structures and districts may be designated by the Common Council upon the recommendation of the Historic Preservation Commission; and

Whereas, The Historic Preservation Commission, at its April 4, 2022 meeting, by a unanimous vote of six (6) ayes and one (1) excused, recommended historic designation of the Columbia Hospital (Northwest Quadrant Building A) at 2015-2025 E. Newport Ave.; and

Whereas, This building fulfills the following criterion set forth in s. 320-21-3:

e-1. Its exemplification and development of the cultural, economic, social or historic heritage of the city, state of Wisconsin or the United States

e-5. Its embodiment of distinguishing characteristics of an architectural type or specimen

e-6. Its identification as the work of an artist, architect, craftsman or master builder whose individual works have influenced the development of the city

; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Columbia Hospital (Northwest Quadrant Building A) at 2015-2025 E. Newport Ave. further described as:

Tax Key No. 2790397111 (This nomination only includes the original Columbia Hospital building and its various additions from 1919 through 1969. This portion is now considered Northwest Quadrant Building A.)
