Minutes note: Ms. Carlen Hatala said two members of the public nominated this building. This neighborhood library was meant to be inviting to the public and for the people. There has been minimal remodeling since the library was constructed. The concrete panels are in integral part of the facades. Fritz Von Grossmann was the architect, who also designed Kohl's Supermarket and the state masonic building, among other buildings. Other buildings from the same period by other architects have been altered over time. The steel used on the building is self-rusting. The Forest Home library won an award from the Steel Institute in 1967, as well as other awards. The Dept. of City Development put the building on the market and had certain requirements placed on the sale. HPC staff will review city property prior to sale for potential historic designation. Ms. Peltz agreed that this should be done prior to designating a property for sale. Staff recommends designation based on e-1, 5, 6 and 7. Mr. Jarosz moved, seconded by Ms. Peltz, to open the public hearing: Eric Vogel - 2405 E. Wyoming Pl. - supports designation Brian Adamson and Steve Pettit - potential developer and architect - opposed - Fritz Grossmann may not even be the architect on this building and, even if he is, this building wasn't one of his principal works. Dave Misky - Dept. of City Development - this will be part of a larger land sale at ZND on 12/8 Jeremy Ebersole - supports designation Kelsey Kuehn - nominator Mr. Jarosz moved, seconded by Ms. Peltz, to close the public hearing. Moved to approved, based upon e-1, 5, 6 and 7
