This resolution declares Cesar Chavez Day to be an official City event and authorizes the acceptance and expenditure of contributions for this purpose.
Body
Whereas, Cesar Chavez was a labor leader and civil rights activist who co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers labor union; and

Whereas, Cesar Chavez was a champion of public service, workers rights, and social justice whose activism promoted increased wages, improved working conditions, and civil rights for farmworkers; and

Whereas, Cesar Chavez Day, which is a federal commemorative holiday on March 31 every year, highlights the legacy of Cesar Chavez and focuses on Chicano and Mexican-American efforts in the labor movement; and

Whereas, The event will include a resource fair, food drive, educational forum, and celebration with food and music; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that Cesar Chavez Day is declared to be an official City event; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Common Council-City Clerk’s Office is authorized to accept and expend contributions for this purpose; and, be it

Further Resolved, That upon receipt and deposit of these funds, the City Comptroller is authorized and directed to establish a special account within the Common Council -City Clerk’s budget for the expenditure of the contributions; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized and directed to transfer appropriations and estimated revenue from the Special Purpose Account for Contributions, 0001-2110-0001-006300-D001, and the Estimated Revenue Account for Contributions, 0001-2110-0001-009850, to the Common Council-City Clerk’s Special Account, 0001-1310-DXXX-00630...
