This resolution authorizes the City Attorney to intervene in We Energies’ test year 2025 rate case.
Body
Whereas, based on statements made by Wisconsin Electric Power Company (WEPCO) in a recent filing, WEPCO and Wisconsin Gas LLC (doing business as We Energies) plan to file a test year 2025 rate case with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC) requesting authority to increase electric, steam, and natural gas rates in 2025; and
Whereas, Effective January 2023, We Energies received authority to increase its rates on residential customers by 11.3 percent; and
Whereas, Effective January 2024, We Energies received authority to increase its rates on residential customers by an additional 3.1 percent; and
Whereas, The City is a major consumer of electricity, gas, and steam from We Energies; and
Whereas, The City is also home to thousands of moderate and low-income residents, many of whom can least afford to pay another We Energies rate increase; and
Whereas, Intervention in We Energies’ test year 2025 rate case will protect the interests of the City; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Attorney is authorized to intervene in We Energies’ test year 2025 rate case on the City’s behalf and to protect the City’s interests in that proceeding.
