Title
Substitute resolution authorizing participation in the County and Cities Housing Committee.

Analysis
This resolution authorizes the proper City officials to participate in the County and Cities Housing Committee established by Milwaukee County.

Body
Whereas, Milwaukee County has established a County and Cities Housing Committee comprised of members of the community, policymakers, and staff to discuss housing-related issues across Milwaukee County and its municipalities and to provide recommendations for improvement; and

Whereas, A committee including members of the community, a landlord, and legal housing experts who work in conjunction with the Department of Health and Human Services’ Housing Division could aid in the County’s strategic plans to address housing insecurity, eviction prevention, and homelessness; and

Whereas, The Common Council recognizes the need for housing for all members of the community and has dedicated funding for housing in both its annual budget and through American Rescue Plan Act grant funding; and

Whereas, The County recognizes in its legislation that it is beneficial for City officials to provide a more comprehensive view of housing issues, given varying roles and expertise; and

Whereas, The County and Cities Housing Committee provides a forum for members of the community, who are on the frontlines of housing insecurities issues, to exchange information with local government officials and to offer recommendations to assist the County and other local entities in making more effective and equitable decisions relating to housing issues; and

Whereas, The County’s ordinance s. 46.12 to 46.18 provides that the Committee is comprised of 21 voting members, including the City’s Common Council President or designee, Commissioner of City Development or designee, ...
