Title
Resolution relating to acceptance and funding of a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources 2025 Regular Grant- Empowering Community Investment in the Urban Tree Canopy.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Department of Public Works Forestry Service to accept and fund a 2025 Regular Grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for $50,000 with a grantor of $25,000 and a city share of $25,000 to be provided by the existing Urban Forestry Fund Contribution Account.
Body
The purpose of this grant is for the City of Milwaukee to partner with owner-occupied homeowners in Milwaukee’s highest-need neighborhoods to plant trees on their property. Additionally, a third-party entity will conduct community engagement to solicit program participation and educate community members on the benefits and maintenance of trees.
Outcomes over the term of the grant include: a) planting 145 trees on owner-occupied properties in Milwaukee’s highest-need neighborhoods b) will engage and educate community residents on the benefits and maintenance of trees.
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources; and
Whereas, the operation of this grant from 01/01/2025 to 12/31/2025 would cost $50,000 of which $25,000 (50%) would be provided by the grantor and $0 (0%) would be provided by the city; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Milwaukee Department of Public Works Forestry Service shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2025 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects the following amount for the project titled: Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Regular Grant:

2. Create the necessary Grant and Aid Project/Grant and Project/Grant levels; budget against these Project/Grant values the amount required under the grant agreement;
3. Establish the necessary Cost Share Project Values; and, be it
1. Expend from the amount budgeted for specified purposes as indicated in the grant budget and incur costs consistent with the award date; and
2. Enter into subcontracts as detailed in the grant budget.
