This resolution amends the City of Milwaukee’s Legislative Package to include support for the PRINCE Act, which requires authorities to send alerts regarding missing children in cases that do not meet the criteria for Amber Alerts.
Body
Whereas, In October 2023, 5-year-old Prince McCree was murdered in Milwaukee after being reported missing, but the Milwaukee Police Department later said the case did not meet the criteria for issuing an Amber Alert; and

Whereas, In response to this tragedy, the Wisconsin State Legislature proposed the Protection and Recovery Involving Non-located Children Endangered Act, or the PRINCE Act, in January 2024; and

Whereas, The PRINCE Act would require local authorities to send alerts to the mobile phones of people in the surrounding vicinity of missing children in cases that do not meet the criteria for Amber Alerts; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Administration-Intergovernmental Relations Division is directed to seek introduction and passage of the PRINCE Act, which relates to alerts for missing children who do not meet the criteria for Amber Alerts; and, be it

Further Resolved, That Common Council Resolution File Number 220724 is amended by inserting the following item in the document attached to the file and identified as “Amended State Legislative Package”:

Public Health and Safety Common Council Seek introduction and passage of the PRINCE ACT, which requires authorities to send alerts regarding missing children in cases that do not meet the criteria for Amber Alerts.
