Resolution relative to acceptance and funding of a U.S. Department of Justice 2022 COPS Hiring Program grant.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to accept and fund a 2022 COPS Hiring Program grant from the US Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services in the amount of $15,740,904 with a City share of $0 and a grantor share of $15,740,904. The purpose of the grant is to hire and fund 50 additional police officers for a 3-year period with a 12-month local retention period.
Body
Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #16.710, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice to hire and fund 50 additional police officers for a 3-year period with a 12-month local retention period; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 10/1/2022 to 9/30/2027 would cost $15,740,904, of which $0 would be provided by the City and $15,740,904 (100%) would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Police Department is authorized to accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2022 Special Revenue - Grant and Aid Projects the following amounts for the program/project titled 2022 COPS Hiring Program Grant:
