Title

Substitute resolution directing the Department of Public Works to place signage at City-owned parking lots.

Analysis

This resolution directs the Department of Public Works to place signage at City-owned parking lots indicating that the lots are owned by the City.  The signage shall list relevant public nuisance ordinances.  The signage shall be bilingual.

Body

Whereas, The City owns, maintains, and operates surface parking lots for use by the public; and

 

Whereas, The Milwaukee Code of Ordinances and the Wisconsin statutes contain various provisions relating to loitering, noise, public alcohol consumption and reckless driving; and

 

Whereas, People have been observed congregating in City-owned parking lots; and

 

Whereas, Loitering can be disruptive to neighbors and residents; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Public Works is directed to install signage at each City-owned parking lot indicating that the parking lot is owned by the City and notifying parking lot users of relevant City ordinances relating to loitering; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That appropriate signage shall be bilingual.
