Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Administration’s Community Development Grants Administration to accept and fund the Health Department’s Office of Violence Prevention to carry out the Safer Communities for Youth Project in the amount of $500,000 grant share with no city match. The purpose of the grant is to increase Milwaukee’s response to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking among youth ages 11 to 24.

Whereas, the City of Milwaukee has been allocated funding through the OVW Grants to Prevent and Respond to Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Against Children and Youth Grant through the Department of Justice, Office of Violence Against Women at $500,000; and

Whereas, the Office of Violence Prevention is part of a three-year initiative to provide prevention programming related to domestic violence, dating violence, stalking and sexual assault. The project will increase the capacity of youth-serving organizations and programs to address the prevention of and response to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking through targeted educational trainings. In addition, the project will increase the access Milwaukee youth ages 11 to 24 have to prevention programming that is inclusive of youth-led strategies, assists youth in understanding and recognizing abusive behavior, and addresses bystander intervention.

Whereas, there is no local share required for this grant program; and
