Title

Substitute resolution authorizing the Department of Employee Relations to issue a request for proposal for the City’s group life insurance benefit

 

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Department of Employee Relations to conduct a request for proposal (RFP) process for the City’s Group Life Insurance benefit for employees and retirees with contract terms commencing January 1, 2020.

 

Body

Whereas, Common Council File 160041 authorized the Department of Employee Relations to enter a contract with MetLife for Group Life Insurance benefits for three years beginning January 1, 2017 and ending December 31, 2019, with an option to extend the contract for two years; and

 

Whereas, The premium rates offered for the two year extension would cause a significant increase to the City’s Life Insurance budget; and

 

Whereas, It is in the City’s best interest to conduct a RFP process to obtain the most competitive group life insurance premium rates for a new contract period beginning January 1, 2020; and  

 

Whereas, The Department of Employee Relations will work with its benefits consultant and an internal review team to conduct a RFP process and evaluate responses; now, therefore, be it  

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Department of Employee Relations is authorized to execute a request for proposal process to select a group life insurance provider; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That following the conclusion of the request for proposal process, the Department of Employee Relations will provide the Finance and Personnel Committee with a recommendation for a new group life insurance provider.
