Title

Substitute resolution directing the Commissioner of Neighborhood Services to develop a strategy for reducing illegal dumping in targeted areas that experience high volumes of illegal dumping.

Analysis

This resolution directs the Commissioner of Neighborhood Services to develop a strategy for reducing illegal dumping in areas of the city where illegal dumping is the most frequent, and to report this strategy to the Common Council by March 31, 2019.

Body

Whereas, Illegal dumping in Milwaukee undermines the health and vitality of neighborhoods where it occurs; and

 

Whereas, Illegal dumping creates a potential health and safety risk to City residents living near dump sites; and

 

Whereas, Illegal dumping can diminish the property values of properties surrounding dump sites; and

 

Whereas, Illegal dumping has become such a pernicious act in certain city neighborhoods already struggling with various socioeconomic challenges that an innovative strategy is needed to address the community problem; now, therefore, be it 

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Neighborhood Services is directed to develop a strategy for reducing illegal dumping in areas of the City where illegal dumping is the most frequent; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, The Commissioner shall collaborate with other city departments as needed in the development of this strategy; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, The Commissioner shall report the nature and details of this strategy to the Common Council by March 31, 2019
