Analysis

This resolution directs the Commissioner of Health to establish a defined process to address cases of elevated levels of lead in the blood of children in Milwaukee, and report this process to the Common Council by March 31, 2019.

Body

Whereas, Elevated levels of lead in the blood of children, especially children younger than 6 years old, poses a significant health risk to these children; and

 

Whereas, Identifying lead hazards in domiciles of lead-poisoned children, ensuring the safety of lead-poisoned children and abating lead hazards found can be a complex undertaking involving multiple parties and strict timelines; and

 

Whereas, The process for addressing past and future cases of children with elevated blood-levels is expected to require a significant commitment of resources; and

 

Whereas, A familiarity with the process used to address cases of elevated levels of lead in the blood of Milwaukee children will help elected officials ensure the proper allocation of resources for this undertaking; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Health is directed to establish a defined process to address cases of elevated levels of lead in the blood of Milwaukee children; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, The Commissioner shall report the nature and details of this process to the Common Council by March 31, 2019.
