Title

Resolution urging the United States government to permit Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to purchase prepared juice products.

Analysis

This resolution directs the Department of Administration - Intergovernmental Relations Division to lobby the United States Department of Agriculture to permit Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients to purchase prepared juice products.

Body

Whereas, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients are permitted to purchase soft drinks; and

 

Whereas, Scientific consensus is that soft drinks have more detrimental health effects than natural fruit and vegetable juice; and

 

Whereas, New juice bar businesses serving natural fruit and vegetable juices are opening in the City of Milwaukee; and

 

Whereas, Juice bars are opening in areas of the City where many residents are Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients; and

 

Whereas, Natural fruit and vegetable juices are a healthful option for City residents and should be affordable for Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program recipients; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Administration - Intergovernmental Relations Division is directed to lobby the United States Department of Agriculture to permit Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients to purchase prepared juice products.
