Body
Whereas, The Department of Public Works (DPW) is currently performing design engineering for the Canal Street Extension project (25th Street to Miller Park); and

Whereas, The Canal Street Extension project is scheduled to be let by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) in March, 2005; and

Whereas, A future resolution will seek Common Council authority for construction of the Canal Street Extension project; and

Whereas, The steel industry is currently requiring a 7 month lead time for bridge girder fabrication; and

Whereas, It is DPW's and WISDOT's goal to complete The Canal Street Extension project as soon as possible to maximize the time it can function as a traffic mitigation route during reconstruction of the Core Marquette Interchange; and

Whereas, A separate City-let Early-Out Bridge Steel Procurement contract in advance of the primary Canal Street Extension project will allow project completion approximately 4 months earlier than if bridge steel is included in the primary contract; and

Whereas, Contract costs associated with the Early-Out Bridge Steel Procurement contract are estimated at $3.35 million; and

Whereas, Funding for this contract shall be provided through DPW capital budget allocations dedicated to the Canal Street Reconstruction Extension project; and
