Title
Substitute resolution authorizing the Commissioner of Public Works to amend agreements with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for traffic signal improvements in conjunction with various 2004 paving projects and work associated with the Marquette Interchange reconstruction.
Analysis
The Common Council previously authorized the Commissioner of Public Works to enter into agreements with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for the improvement of traffic signals in conjunction with federally aided paving projects, and in conjunction with work related to the reconstruction of the Marquette Interchange. The additional work, consisting of replacement of existing signal indications with advanced light-emitting diode indications, would exceed costs authorized under the previous resolutions. This resolution would authorize the Commissioner of Public Works to amend the agreements to include the additional traffic signal work, and would also authorize the Comptroller to transfer additional funds for this work.

Whereas, The Common Council previously authorized the Commissioner of Public Works to enter into agreements with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) for cost participation in traffic signal equipment improvements in conjunction with the 2004 federally aided paving projects, and with the reconstruction of the Marquette Interchange; and

Whereas, Signal visibility and traffic safety can be improved by replacing existing signal indications with light-emitting diode (LED) signal indications; and

Whereas, These additional traffic signal upgrades are eligible for funding in conjunction with paving projects in the 2004 program and with work related to Marquette Interchange reconstruction; and
