Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to amend the Fiber Infrastructure Partnership Agreement between the City of Milwaukee and Wisconsin Department of Transportation for the additional sharing of dark fiber and other communication facilities.
Body

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) currently provides the City of Milwaukee access to the DOT traffic management system cameras through City of Milwaukee fiber for augmenting the City’s snow/ice control and public safety operations; and

Whereas, The DOT also provides the City with network services to the Police Department substation located at Miller Park; and

Whereas, The City currently provides dark fiber in certain routes, thereby enhancing the reliability of the DOT traffic management system; and

Whereas, The City and DOT currently have a Fiber Infrastructure Partnership Agreement outlining the sharing of dark fiber and other communication facilities as authorized by Common Council Resolution File 041170, adopted on February 1, 2005; and

Whereas, The City owns additional dark fiber in certain routes that would be beneficial to the reliability of the DOT traffic management system during the reconstruction of the Zoo Interchange; and

Whereas, The DOT owns additional dark fiber in certain routes that would reduce the redundancy of the City’s optical network; and

Whereas, The Fire Department has expressed support for an amendment to the Fiber Infrastructure Partnership Agreement allowing additional sharing of dark fiber, as it would enhance the reliability of communication facilities for the Fire Department; and
