Analysis
This resolution directs the Department of Public Works to erect permanent “Rough Road Ahead” signs to alert motorists to the condition of the roadway along S. 60th St. at the following intersections:
1. S. 60th St and W. Kinnickinnic River Pkwy. (northern city limit)
2. S. 60th St and W. Oklahoma Ave.
3. S. 60th St and W. Forest Home Ave.
4. S. 60th St and W. Cold Spring Rd. (southern city limit)
Body
Whereas, Streets are an important part of the City’s transportation network; and
Whereas, S. 60th St. from W. Kinnickinnic River Pkwy. south to W. Cold Spring Rd., is classified as a principal arterial with average daily traffic of between 15,300 to 16,900 vehicles; and
Whereas, S. 60th St. needs repair due to rough ride quality and pavement deficiencies, including potholes, pavement cracking and deteriorated medians; and
Whereas, Common Council Resolution Number 140427, adopted on July 22, 2014, directed the Commissioner of Public Works to execute project agreements titled State Municipal Agreement for a State Let Local Project with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation; and
Whereas, Two project agreements were included in this resolution for S. 60th St., W. Cold Spring Rd. to W. Morgan Ave. (Project ID: 2415-00-00/70/90) and W. Morgan Ave. to W. Kinnickinnic River Pkwy. (Project ID: 2415-00-01/71/91); and
Whereas, The reconstruction of S. 60th St. from Kinnickinnic River Pkwy. south to W. Cold Spring Rd. is not scheduled to begin until 2018 or 2019; and
Whereas, Street segments in failing or poor condition contribute to a diminished quality of life for City residents and motorists; now, therefore, be it
