Body
Whereas, Due to the conversion of the Milwaukee Police Department’s radio system from analog technology to a digital system, interested parties - whether they be the media, elected officials or the general public - can no longer use scanners to monitor police communications; and
Whereas, Elected officials have great concern for public safety in the neighborhoods they represent; and
Whereas, If provided with police radios, elected officials would not use these devices to interfere with police investigations or other police activity, but would have the opportunity to keep abreast of current public safety issues in their districts and to disseminate critical information to constituents if they felt such information could be shared without compromising the work of the Milwaukee Police Department; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Chief of Police is requested to provide police radios to elected City officials upon individual request.
