Substitute resolution relating to the acceptance of a Bloomberg Foundation "What Works Cities" technical assistance grant for the City of Milwaukee’s open data and performance reporting tools.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Administration to accept a Bloomberg Foundation “What Works Cities” technical assistance grant for the City of Milwaukee’s open data and performance reporting tools. The purpose of this grant is for What Works Cities partners to provide technical assistance, resources and tools to help the City to achieve its goal of strengthening open data and performance reporting tools. This resolution further authorizes the Department of Administration to execute a Memorandum of Understanding describing the grant between the City of Milwaukee and What Works Cities partners Results for America, Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Government Excellence and The Sunlight Foundation.

Whereas, Mayor Barrett and the Common Council have crafted an ambitious agenda for Milwaukee that focuses on neighborhood revitalization and community development, economic development and housing; and
Whereas, “What Works Cities” is an initiative established by The Bloomberg Family Foundation, Inc. with partners Results for America, Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Government Excellence and the Sunlight Foundation (collectively, WWC), to help U.S. cities use data analytics and other technology tools to address issues facing their metropolitan areas, including economic development, job creation, public safety and affordable housing; and
Whereas, The Department of Administration and WWC have identified open data and performance reporting tools as two opportunities where WWC can assist the City in advancing its agenda; and
