Title
Resolution urging the Milwaukee Public Schools system and Milwaukee-area private schools to implement certain recommendations of the City of Milwaukee Truancy Abatement Task Force.
Analysis
This resolution urges the Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) system and Milwaukee-area private schools to implement the following recommendations of the City of Milwaukee Truancy Abatement Task Force:
1. That both work with the Milwaukee Police Department to establish an official and uniform system of documentation for students excused from regular school attendance.
2. That both work to create a separate coding on student identification cards for students who leave on half-day schedules.
3. That the MPS establish and make available a direct contact to provide timely information regarding students detained by the Police Department or other agencies on suspicion of truancy.

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee Truancy Abatement Task Force issued its findings and recommendations on September 27, 2002; and
Whereas, While the focus of the task force was on trying to determine ways the City of Milwaukee could contribute to reducing the problem of truancy, there was always an acknowledgement that long-term solutions will require coordinated, interagency solutions; and
Whereas, Certain recommendations cannot be implemented without the cooperation of both the Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) system and the City's private schools; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council urges the MPS system and the City's private schools to implement the following recommendations of the City of Milwaukee Truancy Abatement Task Force:
