Title
Resolution relating to application for a Certified Local Government grant from the Wisconsin Historical Society.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the City Clerk’s Office-Historic Preservation Commission to apply for a grant to be awarded by the Wisconsin Historical Society. The grant would fund the preparation of a National Register nomination for the Mitchell Street Historic District.

Whereas, The Milwaukee Historic Preservation Ordinance, Section 320-21 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances, as amended, provides that the Historic Preservation Commission protect, safeguard, stabilize and foster civic pride in historic resources; and
Whereas, The Historic Preservation Commission is eligible, as a Certified Local Government, to apply for historic sub grants made available from the Wisconsin Historical Society to assist government units to carry out their mission of preservation; and
Whereas, The locally-designated Mitchell Street Historic District has been determined potentially eligible for National Register listing; and
Whereas, Listing in the National Register of Historic Places would provide the opportunity for property owners to take advantage of historic tax credits; and
Whereas, The historic tax credit has been proven an effective tool at the local, state and national level to encourage appropriate investment in historic properties; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Clerk’s Office - Historic Preservation Commission is authorized to apply for a certified Local Government grant from the Wisconsin Historical Society.
