Analysis
This resolution expresses the City of Milwaukee’s endorsement and support of the principles of the “We All Belong” campaign, established in the hope of preserving American democracy and building what Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., described as a “Beloved Community”.
Body
Whereas, Since its founding, the United States of America was intended to have a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, intended to guarantee liberty and justice for all Americans; and
Whereas, The term “Americans” must include indigenous people, those who were forcibly brought to America and enslaved, and those who came as immigrants and workers; and
Whereas, America is stronger when justice, wealth, opportunity and representation are available to all Americans, rather than an elite few; and
Whereas, Americans aspire to what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called the 'Beloved Community’, working for the betterment of all and respecting the value of every human being, celebrating diversity, and supporting equity and inclusion; and
Whereas, All American should stand with those who others would exclude in the hope of building this Beloved Community for the many races, faiths, cultures, and ways of life that together make up this nation; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City of Milwaukee endorses the principles of the “We All Belong” Campaign launched by the Milwaukee Inner-City Congregations Allied for Hope to protect our precious democracy, ensure the separation of church and state, and build Dr. King’s dream of a Beloved Community.
