Substitute resolution accepting a donation of law enforcement memorabilia from retired Milwaukee police officer Donald E. Brockman.
Analysis
With this resolution, the City accepts retired Milwaukee police officer
Donald E. Brockman's donation of 51 foreign hats and badge memorabilia currently housed in the Milwaukee Police Department Safety Academy. The resolution authorizes and directs the proper City officers to execute the necessary transfer documents. The Milwaukee Police Historical Society shall maintain and safeguard the donated memorabilia collection.
Body
Whereas, On November 8, 1983, the Common Council adopted a resolution accepting a donation of 35 displays of law enforcement patches from retired Milwaukee police officer Donald E. Brockman; and

Whereas, On February 9, 1999, the City further accepted 88 displays of law enforcement memorabilia containing squad car decals, uniform patches, hat shields, breast badges and other police-related items; and

Whereas, Since 1985, another law enforcement memorabilia collection of Mr. Brockman's has been displayed on the third floor of the Milwaukee Police Department Safety Academy, 6680 N. Teutonia Ave., without ever having been donated to or accepted by the City; and

Whereas, This collection consists of 51 foreign police hats with an estimated value of $3,000; and

Whereas, Mr. Brockman has generously offered to donate this police memorabilia collection to the City of Milwaukee; and

Whereas, The future security of Mr. Brockman's collection can be more easily guaranteed if the collection is the property of the City than if it remains personal property; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City of Milwaukee accepts Donald E. Brockman's donation of the 51 foreign police hats currently housed on the third floor of the Milwaukee Police Department Safety...
