Substitute resolution directing the Commissioner of Public Works to modernize and streamline the process for signing up for payment plans for parking citations.

Analysis

This resolution directs the Commissioner of Public Works to lead an effort with the goal of modernizing and streamlining the process for signing up for payment plans for parking citations.

Body

Whereas, The Department of Public Works administers the City’s parking enforcement services; and

 

Whereas, The Department of Public Works maintains a website that provides a way for the public to pay parking citations online and a phone number that can be called to arrange a payment plan; and

 

Whereas, The City recently passed an ordinance relating to the removal and impoundment of motor vehicles owned by habitual parking violators; and

 

Whereas, Making it as easy as possible to sign up for parking citation payment plans will benefit both the City and the vehicle owners at risk of removal and impoundment of their motor vehicles; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Public Works shall lead an effort to modernize and streamline the process for signing up for parking citation payment plans; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That a modernized and streamlined process shall be developed by the Commissioner of Public Works through research on industry-leading practices and consultation with subject matter experts; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Commissioner of Public Works shall coordinate this effort with other City departments or vendors as needed; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Commissioner of Public Works shall communicate the status of this effort to the Public Safety and Health Committee within 90 days of adoption of this resolution.
