Analysis
This ordinance specifies the regulations governing municipal off-street parking lots and provides the commissioner of public works with the ability to change parking regulations based on geographical areas’ particular parking needs and conditions.

Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee manages over 40 surface parking lots and needs consistent regulations that govern both parking lots and on-street parking; and

Whereas, Consistent regulation ensures that the public can better understand parking policies, including night parking permit requirements, and avoid unnecessary tickets; and

Whereas, Under new parking regulations, signage could be updated with a link to a website whereby drivers can apply for night parking permits; now, therefore

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1. Section 101-33-4 of the code is recreated to read:

101-33. Parking Lot and Off-Street Parking Regulations.

4. TO ERECT SIGNS. The commissioner of public works is directed to erect and maintain, on any municipal off-street parking lot, appropriate signs indicating the limitations or restrictions on parking provided in the resolution or ordinance for such lot, including signs designating particular parking spaces for snow storage or electric vehicle parking. A vehicle may be parked in a municipal lot from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. provided that the vehicle owner has obtained a night parking permit as governed by s. 101-27-5. A vehicle may not remain in the same parking space for more than 24 hours, unless permitted via a lease. A vehicle in excess of 3 tons is prohibited from standing, stopping or parking in a municipal off-street parking lot. A vehicle may not be parked in a lot unless the vehicle disp...
