An ordinance relating to continuation of city employe benefits during certain military leaves of absence.

Analysis
This ordinance extends employe health and dental benefits to the dependents of city employes whose national guard or reserve units are called up, or who volunteer, for active military duty in connection with Operation Iraqi Freedom. The ordinance establishes the following:

1. The city shall contribute towards the subscriber cost for the employes' health or dental plan, or both, for employes who serve on active duty for more than 30 days.

2. The benefits cease when the national guard or reserve members are released from active duty or after 24 months, whichever comes first.

3. The benefit terms are the same as those provided for dependents of employes who volunteered or were called up for active duty in Bosnia and in connection with the presidential order of April 27, 1999, relating to Operation Allied Force (the Kosovo conflict), and in connection with the anti-terrorism campaign Operation Enduring Freedom.

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1. Section 350-36-2.5-0 of the code is amended to read:

350-36. Military Leave.

2.5. CONTINUATION OF BENEFITS DURING CERTAIN MILITARY LEAVES OF ABSENCE.
