Title

A substitute ordinance relating to the fees charged for city permits for sprinkler installation in certain apartment buildings.

Analysis

This ordinance authorizes the commissioner of neighborhood services to temporarily waive the fees associated with plan review, permit, and initial inspection for the retrofitting of sprinkler systems in certain apartment buildings currently exempt from state requirements for fire suppression.

Body

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

 

Part 1.  Waiver of Fees Related to the Installation of Sprinkler Systems. a. Upon the passage of this ordinance, the commissioner of the department of neighborhood services shall waive all fees associated with the permitting, plan review, and initial inspection of voluntarily retrofitted sprinkler systems.

 

b. The waiver of fees by the commissioner shall apply to all existing non-conforming, non-sprinklered, multi-family residential or mixed use buildings with 3 or more residential dwelling units.

 

c.  Fees shall only be waived for buildings whose owner or agent has submitted complete permit applications for the installation of sprinkler systems not later than 36 months following the passage of this ordinance.

 

d.  This ordinance shall not apply to fees assessed under section 200-32-3.
