Title

A substitute ordinance relating to the city attorney’s authority to review certain contracts.

Section

304-21                                           rc

Analysis

Currently, the code requires that the city attorney’s office review and approve any agreement, contract, or instrument in which the consideration for transfer or purchase of property exceeds $25,000. This ordinance requires the city attorney to review agreements, contracts, and instruments at the request of the mayor or any member of the common council.

Body

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1. Section 304-21 of the code is repealed and recreated to read:

304-21. Review of Contracts by City Attorney. The city attorney shall, at the request of the mayor or any member of the common council, review any agreement, contract, or instrument. The city attorney shall provide the requested advice to the mayor and the common council prior to the consideration of the agreement, contract, or instrument by committee or, if considered under suspension, by the common council.
