Analysis
This ordinance requires all vehicles and other equipment belonging to the city under the control of the department of public works operations division, except those automobiles used by the mayor’s office, to be prominently marked on each side with the words “CITY OF MILWAUKEE”, and an identifying number on the rear with letters “DPW”, and the same number on the front with the number only. Currently, vehicles used by the common council, the mayor’s office, the city attorney’s office, the office of the commissioner of public works, the department of city development, the health department, the department of neighborhood services (one car), the director of the operations division, the commissioner of health, the city engineer and the city treasurer are not marked.

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:
Part 1. Section 309-10 of the code is repealed and recreated to read:
309-10. Marking of City-owned Vehicles and Equipment.
All vehicles and other equipment belonging to the city under the control of the department of public works operations division except those vehicles used by the mayor’s office shall be prominently marked on each side thereof, with the words “CITY OF MILWAUKEE”, and an identifying number on the rear with letters “DPW”, and the same number on the front with the number only. In lieu thereof, similarly designated automobiles used by the harbor commission may bear its “PORT OF MILWAUKEE” insignia and the identifying number of the operations division.
