Analysis
This resolution directs all city departments to provide administrative and technical services to the Department of Community Wellness and Safety and the Department of Equity and Inclusion.
Body
Whereas, The 2026 Adopted Budget funded a Department of Community Wellness and Safety and a Department of Equity and Inclusion, staffed with experienced, capable and competent professionals dedicated to the health and success of every Milwaukee resident; and
Whereas, The duties and responsibilities of the Department of Community Wellness and Safety and the Department of Equity and Inclusion were exceptionally performed and executed when housed within the Department of Administration and supported by that and other City departments; and
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee expects that this structural change will not impact the level of support provided to the hardworking staff of the Department of Community Wellness and Safety and the Department of Equity and Inclusion as they advance their necessary and important missions in two new and independent departments; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that effective January 1, 2026, all City departments shall provide all necessary services, including but not limited to administrative and technical support, to the Department of Community Wellness and Safety and to the Department of Equity and Inclusion.
