3/13/20170 HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION

Minutes note: Ms. Carlen Hatala said this nomination came about as a 1916 porch was removed and replaced with a cruder version. The house was built in 1886. Mr. Frattinger was a civil war veteran and a tailor who bought out his employer's company. When the house was constructed it was the highest assessed house on the block. The family was taking in boarders in 1900 and part of the property was sold in 1902. In 1908 an apartment building was built adjacent to the property. In 1908 the property was sold and that owner had roomers as well. It has moved through various families with the current owner, James Olszewski, having owned the house since 1998. The house is in the Queen Anne style with decorative chimneys, decorative shingles and a big bay. The street car line ran right past the house, so no garage or coach house was ever built, although an oriel was added to the house by the Frattinger family. The house has one of the most decorative chimneys in the city. Staff recommends temporary designation by given it due to e-5 and e-9. James Olszewski - property owner as president of Ollie & Company Mr. Williams moved, seconded by Ms. Pieper Eisenbrown, to grant the temporary designation. There were no objections.
