Analysis

This resolution requests the Wisconsin Secretary of Transportation to increase the frequency of highway litter abatement in counties containing cities of the 1st class.

 

Body

Whereas, Milwaukee County is the largest county in the state by population; and

 

Whereas, Milwaukee County has the largest freeway interchanges in the state; and 

 

Whereas, Currently, Milwaukee County is the only county in the state containing a city of the 1st class; and 

 

Whereas, The freeways in Milwaukee County are consistently strewn with litter; and 

 

Whereas, The lack of suitable litter control by the State on the freeways within Milwaukee County reflects poorly upon the City of Milwaukee; and

 

Whereas, The State of Wisconsin’s uniform policy for litter abatement along freeway fence lines is one cleaning per year; and

 

Whereas, This uniform litter abatement policy is insensitive to the dissimilar populations of counties throughout the state; now, therefore, be it    

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, That the City requests the Wisconsin Secretary of Transportation to increase the frequency of highway litter abatement in counties containing cities of the 1st class; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the City Clerk shall send a copy of this resolution to Wisconsin Secretary of Transportation Dave Ross, Governor Scott Walker and each member of Milwaukee’s Legislative delegation.
