Substitute resolution supporting the proposal by the Center for Driver’s License Recovery and Employability in the Greater Together Challenge for the implementation of universal drivers’ education in Milwaukee Public Schools.
Analysis
This resolution expresses the City of Milwaukee’s support for the Center for Driver’s License Recovery and Employability’s proposal in the Greater Together Challenge for the implementation of universal drivers’ education in the Milwaukee Public Schools.
Body
Whereas, The Greater Together Challenge is a citywide contest of ideas and part of a larger campaign to raise awareness related to Milwaukee’s legacy of segregation, and racial and economic inequality; and
Whereas, The Greater Together Challenge is a solution-driven initiative that seeks to put these issues at the center of public dialogue in Milwaukee; and
Whereas, The Center for Driver’s License Recovery and Employability has been selected as one of the finalists in the Greater Together Challenge for its proposal for the implementation of universal drivers’ education in the Milwaukee Public Schools to enable “Milwaukee teens to learn the rules of the road, practice with their peers, and earn the privilege to drive at the age of 16 without concern for the cost, which at approximately $400 is prohibitively high for many low-income students”; and
Whereas, The Center for Driver’s License Recovery and Employability proposes, in partnership with the Milwaukee Public Schools, to spearhead a private fundraising effort to restore free drivers’ education classes in Milwaukee Public Schools and expand support for driver license recovery efforts in the city; now therefore, be it
