This resolution designates August 7-14, 2021, as Bronzeville Week in the City of Milwaukee.
Body
Whereas, The Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District is a City of Milwaukee redevelopment initiative inspired by Milwaukee’s original Bronzeville District of the early- to mid-1900’s; and

Whereas, The primary African-American economic and social hub of its time, Bronzeville brought all ethnicities together to celebrate African-American culture; and

Whereas, The 21st-century Bronzeville initiative strives to revitalize an area of Milwaukee where African-American culture has been a mainstay; and
Whereas, Bounded by Garfield Avenue to Center Street, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive to 7th Street, the Bronzeville District is slated to offer unique opportunities for residents and tourists to enjoy the best Milwaukee has to offer in entertainment, arts and culture; and

Whereas, The Bronzeville area contains numerous buildings of cultural and architectural significance worthy of attention and preservation; and

Whereas, The Bronzeville Redevelopment Plan seeks to create economic development in a predominately African-American neighborhood in a way that recaptures the enthusiasm and attractiveness of the original Bronzeville District; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council designates August 7-14, 2021, as Bronzeville Week in the City of Milwaukee, to focus attention on the importance of the Bronzeville District to the City and to develop innovative strategies; and, be it

Further Resolved, That all City departments are directed to assist as necessary to make Bronzeville Week ...
