Title
Substitute resolution relating to the collection of police vehicle pursuit data by the Fire and Police Commission.
Analysis
This resolution directs the Fire and Police Commission to annually present its vehicle pursuit report to the Common Council.
Body
Whereas, The Fire and Police Commission tracks police vehicle pursuit data, including but not limited to the percentage of traffic stops resulting in flight, the reasons for pursuit, the outcomes of pursuits, the reasons for terminating a pursuit, and the number of pursuits resulting in injuries; and
Whereas, The Fire and Police Commission compiles this data into an annual “Fire and Police Commission Vehicle Pursuit Report”; and
Whereas, Presenting this report to the Common Council would serve to better inform the Common Council about police vehicle pursuits and improve the Council’s oversight of public safety issues; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Fire and Police Commission is directed to present its annual vehicle pursuit report to the Common Council in February of each year, or as soon as possible thereafter; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Police Department and Fire and Police Commission are requested to present this report jointly before the Public Safety and Health Committee.
