Title

Substitute resolution authorizing a partnership between the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee Succeeds to improve collaboration between the City and youth-serving organizations.

Analysis

This resolution authorizes a partnership between the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee Succeeds. Through a pilot program, Milwaukee Succeeds plans to connect the City with national support, tools, and peer learning to help Milwaukee develop sustainable, youth-centered governance practices.

Body

Whereas, Milwaukee Succeeds is a non-profit organization that advances education equity in Milwaukee; and

 

Whereas, Milwaukee Succeeds hopes to improve collaboration between the City and youth-serving organizations, establish structured opportunities for youth to serve on City committees, task forces, and councils, and support youth influence over public resource allocation to improve outcomes for Milwaukee's youth; and

 

Whereas, Milwaukee Succeeds is part of StriveTogether, a national network of local communities working together to put young people on a path to economic mobility; and

 

Whereas, Results for America is a non-profit that helps government leaders find, fund, and implement solutions to accelerate upward economic mobility; and

 

Whereas, StriveTogether has partnered with Results for America to create the City Accelerator Community of Practice Program; and

 

Whereas, The City Accelerator Community of Practice Program creates a community of national partners to support local government officials, local leaders, and place-based partners to deliver on their local objectives to improve economic mobility for children and families in their communities; and

 

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee has been invited to pilot the City Accelerator Community of Practice Program; now, therefore, be it   

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City is committed to working with Milwaukee Succeeds to encourage community participation, strengthen youth engagement in City governance, and advance equitable outcomes for Milwaukee’s young people through the City Accelerator Community of Practice Pilot Program; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That all City departments are directed to assist as necessary to make the partnership with Milwaukee Succeeds successful.
