200890 04.ResolutionSubstitute resolution relating to certification of ambulance service providers for the city emergency medical service system.

Minutes note: Ald. Borkowski asked how four companies could be certified when, at present, there are three recognized ambulance service areas. Assistant City Attorney Tyrone St. Junior said the governing ordinance allows that there might be more certified providers than service areas. To apply for a service areas requires a certification, whether or not an area is granted. There was extensive discussion of the status of MedaCare, whether it should be allowed to apply for certification, and whether certification should be granted given that it does not have a service area. Mr. St. Junior re-iterated that the company can apply. Whether or not certification is granted is a policy matter.
