191144 01.ResolutionResolution relating to the Temporary Historic Designation of the Garner-Ranney-Schutz House at 1247 N. Milwaukee Street in the 4th Ald. District.

Minutes note: Appearing: Carlen Hatala, Senior Planner, who presented the history of the building, which is contained in the report attached to the file. Ms. Hatala recommended designation based upon e-1, its exemplification of the development of the cultural, economic, social or historic heritage of the City of Milwaukee, State of Wisconsin or of the United States; e-3, its identifications with a person or persons who significantly contributed to the culture and development of the city; e-6, its identification as the work of an artist, architect, craftsperson or master builder whose individual works have influenced the development of the city; and e-9, its unique location as a singular physical characteristic which represents an established and familiar visual feature of a neighborhood, community or the city. Ms. Keating Kahn moved, seconded by Ms. Pieper Eisenbrown, to open the public hearing. Public individuals in FAVOR: Mr. Craig Wirell - 306 E Lincoln, 53207 Individuals in OPPOSITON: Mr. John Vogel - does not believe this location would qualified for historic designation under any of the 4 areas discussed by HPC Mr. Bruce Block - 1000 N Water St, Ste 1700 Mr. Leonard Connaughton - 1242 Oak Ridge Drive, South Bend IN 46617 - developer - will be deconstructing the building due to its proximity to the building next door and will repurpose what they can. Patric Connaughton - 2036 N. Prospect Ave. - he will be living in the proposed building at this location Ms. Pieper Eisenbrown moved, seconded by Ms. Keating Kahn, to close the public hearing. Ms. Keating Kahn moved for approval of the temporary designation. There was no second to the motion. Ms. Pieper Eisenbrown said the building does not rise to the nevel of significance to grant historic designation and moved for denial of the temporary designation. Seconded by Ms. Peltz.
