   3. Public Art Subcommittee Report.

Minutes note: -Funding recommendations Chair Morris moved approval, seconded by member Murphy, to award $1000 in Conservation Funds to the Milwaukee Downtown BID for cleaning of the Letter Carrier's Monument at Cathedral Square. There was no objection. Member Morris said that perhaps the board can discuss advocating for preserving the Dan Kiley landscape and chestnut trees at the Marcus Performing Arts Center; otherwise, members can advocate as private citizens for when the matter comes up before the Common Council Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee meeting, which is anticipated to occur on April 30th prior to the board meeting next time. Chair Murphy and member Flores said that the board, unless formally prompted, should not take formal action on the matter.

   4. Project Grants Report.

Minutes note: Ms. Witte gave a report. 50 applications were received with 47 being eligible and 3 ineligible for various reasons. A 8-member panel wil lhave orientation this Thursday followed by a full panel review on May 8th and voting taking place the subsequent week. The Museum of Wisconsin Art application was ineligible due to the organization being located in West Bend and not in Milwaukee.

   5. Vote on 2019 Friends of the Arts and Artists of the Year.

Minutes note: Member Flores nominated and moved approval of Ray Jivoff of Skylight Theater as an award recipient of the Artists of the Year due to his contributions as an actor, director, and educator. Member Murphy seconded. There was no objection. Member McSweeny nominated and moved approval of Barbara Manger as an award recipient of the Friends of the Arts due to her contributions as an educator, artist, art exhibitor, art collector, author, researcher, and past membership of the art boards. Member Flores seconded. There was no objection. Members Baslistreri and Morris additionally nominated Ariana Vaeth and Rosemary Ollison, respectively, for Artists of the Year. Ms. Vaeth nominated for being an emerging young artist, working with students, being awarded a fellowship, and working at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Ms. Ollison nominated as an accomplished and older emerging artist based on her leather quilt work, work in the 1990s, her immersive enviroments, and art fair in New York. Members tallied votes on the additional nominations and came to a consensus. Member Morris moved approval of Rosemary Ollison as an award recipient of the Artist of the Year. Member Flores seconded. There was no objection. Member Flores additionally nominated and moved approval of the couple of Richard Ippolito (deceased) and Pamela Frautschi as an award recipient of the Friends of the Arts due to their support, involvement, and generosity with various art, dance, and theater organizations. Member Murphy seconded. There was no objection. Members advocated for improving the award process by requiring nomination submittals in advance, having a preliminary meeting for nominations, and having a subsequent meeting for recommendations to take place.
