Minutes note: Approval of previous minutes was passed with correction of typo of "restaurants" to "restrooms" for the section or restroom resolution instead of restaurants resolution. Motion to approved presented by Commissioner Cook and seconded by Commissioner Crowley. Commissioner Chair Tony acknowledge of today's important day of Trans Day of Remembrance to honor our trans and non binary siblings and the violence they have faced and the losses they face every year in the most marginalized people in the country. Also recognize Native American Heritage month to honor our Native American Heritage siblings and being grateful to have an opportunity to play upon their lives.

   4. Communication from Office of City Attorney

Minutes note: Introduction of Andrea Fowler who has been assigned to assist the Equal Rights Commission with any legal questions they may arise. Attorney Fowler was an assistant city attorney in the City Attorney's office for about 6 years before moving to the Budget Office for two years to work on the American Rescue Plan Funding.

   5. Communication from Office of Equity and Inclusion

Minutes note: Chief Equity Officer Bernadette was not able to attend today. Commissioner Chair Tony opened the conversation regarding the amendment to Chapter 109. City Attorney Fowler is reviewing the documents and has some questions and is referring to the previous attorney that was assigned to help draft the legislation for some clarification.Commissioner Chair Tony asked the Commissioners for a quick meeting after Thanksgiving to ratify any changes to move forward to get this on the agenda with the Judiciary and Legislation, the Committee and the Common Council. The changes is whether the Commission needs to establish an administrative review process to opt out of the Chapter 68 of the Wisconsin Code. Attorney Fowler needs to be 100% sure that these changes you need before they are codified.

   6. Update on Commissioners appointments

Minutes note: No appointment on the agenda were submitted yet and it is hope that by December 9th cycle and will be communicating with the new appointees. Appointment of the hiring of the Liaison position are being collecting and interviews will begin on January 2025.

   7. Communication from Human Rights Day Ad hoc Committee

Minutes note: Human Rights Day has been confirmed for December 7th and time is from 10:30am to 2:00pm. Flyers are in the final touches and once done they will be distributed soon after. Event Brite invitation will be created and shared with all Commissioners and will be also put on the City of Milwaukee website.

   8. 2025 Orientation and Planning

Minutes note: 2025 will come with new Commissioners and the completion of Chapter 109. With new Commissioners it is important to create an Orientation handbook for them. It is up for discussion later and it should include open meetings, responsibilities, communication, general expectations, etc., and welcoming with current Commissioners.

Minutes note: "It is important to acknowledge the big loss of Alder Person Jonathan Brostoff as he was a stalwart champion of all people and his community and for the City of Milwaukee.This is a huge loss for us as we move forward and we should all be celebrating his legacy," said Commissioner Chair Tony Snell-Rodriguez.
