     4. Traffic and Safety Updates

Minutes note: The MPD District 5 is the area within the boundaries of the scope of the Bronzeville Task Force. Captain and commander of this District is Captain Jeremiah Jackson, he will be presenting the crime statistics. I-43 to MLK north on the north side and Walnut on the south side. The presentation showed all traffic stops from February 23 - April 2nd. There were nine traffic stops conducted in the area: two were on North Avenue, a number of them on Third Street, one on Vine, and Halyard. There were nine citations written for nine stops, only six of those stops resulted in a traffic citation; there were citations for excessive window tints, one of them failure to yield, no brake lights, no license for two of them, and that could be a state charge or a city charge as well. One was operating while revoked, alcohol-related. In the state of Wisconsin, if you are driving with a revoked license, due to Operating While Intoxicated or OWI, the next time you are stop; it is consider a State charge with an arrest. If the stop did not meet specifics circumstance relative to the violation, written warning were issued. There were ten traffic crashes reported.

     5. Resident & Business Perspectives – A deep dive into traffic and safety in Halyard Park

Minutes note: Members traveled virtually through the North Avenue corridor. Discussed the different areas such as abandoned and vacant buildings, lots, business and their activities, projecting different possibilities of the different speed reductions tactics for street walkways, streets signage, and continue the discussion to create the recommendations. They maybe requesting research to the Legislative Research Center to identify resources and find comparable cities that had the same types of problem with reckless driving. Ald. Coggs joined in the robust discussion tour.
