| | | | 3. Public Art Subcommittee Report
Minutes note: Ms. Morris said that a new application was received for the Conservation Fund. It is a project to restore the mural that's been in the Victory Against Violence park in Brownsville, this was made originally in 1997 and Brad Bernard is preparing to restore it.
There are additional questions for the artist, Bernard, so discussion will continue at the next meeting, before committee can make their final funding recommendation.
Ms. Svetic gave a progress report relative to the PAIR program by saying that the art car project is advancing and the hope is to have it done by the end of May as the artist in residence contract ends at the end of June. There have been great community outreach opportunities for the art car set up in early June.

a. Award Nominations Presentation & Voting
Minutes note: Ms. Svetic shared her screen to present the 2024 nominations for Mildred L. Harpole Artist of the Year and
the Friends of the Arts. We received a staggering 81 individual nominations for the two categories, with 17 Artist of the Year nominees, 2 nominees who were nominated (and eligible) for both categories, and 8 Friends of the Arts nominees. All nominees are listed alphabetically, with a note where nominees received multiple nominations. Many slides have links to content which are marked in green, please be sure to click around especially for artists who’s work can’t be viewed on a slide!, said Ms. Svetic.
Voting will be done electronically, with the ballot opening at 4 pm on Tuesday and closing Wednesday morning at 12 noon, I will then email the results to everyone. With the volume of nominations this year, I want to ensure members have an opportunity to view/read/watch/listen to all of the information provided before casting your ballot, said Ms. Svetic.
The recipients are honored at the annual Art celebration, that will be held June 11th in the City Hall rotunda, that will replace the June Arts Board meeting and the artists. They will receive a $1,500 honorarium which is funded by continued donations from arts Board members, attendance stipend.
Ms. Pate asked if there will be a press release to recognize these nominees and their contribution to the Milwaukee art scene at a broader level.
This year the open window for voting is made longer, to allow members to have longer time to review the nominees. A press release will be done by the communication staff of DCD, in the past they worked directly with the Journal Sentinel to write a full feature article and interview all of the awardees.
We do intend to include information about the number of nominations received, the variety of disciplines and of the city that nominations came from. also, those who submitted nominations to the celebration in June, concluded Ms. Svetic.
