   3. PAIR Update

Minutes note: Milwaukee.gov/PAIR Ms. Davitt gave the following report: The fabrication of the art car continues, exoskeleton continues to take shape, and cones are being carved individually to be lit up. An electrical engineer has been brought on to make sure the lighting system functions and has the documentation to support longer term use. Images will be discussion points about the initiatives, and buildings and homes from neighborhoods, so the vehicle becomes a moving city. Recent outreach initiatives were The Maker Faire Milwaukee, which was attended by makers of all ages. One hundred retro reflective (safety material that shines in headlights) visibility patches were printed from plates made of traffic cones as an engagement activity, and two full days of conversations about PAIR, the project and the theories of change around this Sarah’s approach to the issue. She continues a perspective that hopes to engage folks via casual skills training, and small conversational messaging to convey the message without shaming, and to learn about everyone’s part in the issue without feeling “schooled” as a bridge between classroom learning and what is leaned from their families and peers. A set of patches will be given for the upcoming Vigil for Victims of Traffic Violence (https://shermanpark.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/The-World-Day-of-Remembrance-7-1.pdf). Connections were made with Children’s Court and others who will provide inroads to further engagement across multiple communities. Jessica Wineberg at Vision Zero has taken some of the carved cones, lights and is highlighting the project at the Newaukee “Spaceship” event on Nov 14, and has included the art car in her slide deck. “The Eyes Project” is intended to work with existing traffic signs (same color, installed under existing signs) and placed in “neighborhood cut through” streets, where there are mixed use experiences. The Eyes are on display in the MAB vitrine at city hall, and will depict calm, joyful eyes of the community with a QR code pointing to the PAIR website, and a handwritten statement of whose eyes are on the front. If permitting becomes a challenge the eyes could be implemented differently.

Project Expenses: she said that everything that's been purchased has been using DCD's purchasing power; that there is a bill coming up for the Markerspace and some membership costs associated with (about $1,300).
