| | | | Board Member Ericka Sinclair announced that on June 6 from 12-4pm there will be a Community Healthcare Access Day for Community Unity Weekend 2026, hosted by both Healthcare Access and Safe and Sound for violence intervention. There will be resources and giveaways.
Board Member Dr. Irum Ziauddin asked if the department was participating in the Juneteenth event. Commissioner Totoraitis said MHD will be tabling.
Board Member Dr. Ian Martin announced his departure from the Board of Health after this meeting due to a new role in Illinois. Dr. Martin thanked his colleagues for their partnership and shared service on the Board. Dr. Martin thanked Commissioner Totoraitis for his support of the Board. Commissioner Totoraitis thanked Dr. Martin for his leadership and longstanding service.
Commissioner Totoraitis welcomes recommendations for candidates to the Board of Health to fill the vacancies. Board Members can contact Commissioner or the Mayor’s Office.

Commissioner Totoraitis said the World Health Organization declared a public health event for ebola given its status in the Democratic Republic of Congo and now also in Uganda. Response will utilize a regional 2014 plan that was successful. Currently, there are designated airports for screening travelers from high-risk countries, with screening performed by CDC. MHD is monitoring three returned travelers. There is a 21 day monitoring period. MHD is utilizing partnerships with the state and health systems. At this time, there are no suspected cases of Ebola in Milwaukee and no public health concern for Milwaukee residents.
Board Member Dr. Martin asked how many individuals were being monitored in Milwaukee. Commissioner Totoraitis said 3. They were screened by the CDC at the airport upon arrival to the US for contact tracing/questions to identify high risk exposures. They have no symptoms and are merely monitoring for symptoms. MHD is connecting with the individuals regularly, being proactive about communication.
