The departments present provided the following tentative guidelines for hiring of Community Service Officers. -The position previously titled Community Service Officer may be changed to Police Services Assistant, with plans to hire 15 individuals. -After approval by the Fire & Police Commission, the announcement and bulletin for the position may be posted approximately July 26, 2007. -Department of Employee Relations recruitment process may began approximately August 6th - 24th, 2007. -Testing and exams may take place the end of October 2007. -The tentative salary range would be 498 with an estimated salary of $33,134 - $38,786. -Eligible list should be completed approximately early November 2007. -Possibly began background checks and drug tests approximately November 2007. -Training and hiring may be completed by the end of 2007. -Tentative Qualifications - Must be 21 at date of application, a valid drivers license, 2 years of successful experience in public safety, law enforcement support or community relations.

He suggested that a better way to address this issue might be to seek state legislation that would improve current policies, including the hiring of more state staff for increased moitoring of sex offenders. Motion by Alderman Witkowski to amend Common Council File #070237 by striking all language related to residency restrictions and to retain loitering language; in addition to all necessary definitions to make legislation operative.
