Added that she has lived there for 33 years, that she works and invests in Milwaukee and her neighborhood and that she does not want the extended hours because it does not bring any good to the neighbors. She asked the applicant to be a better store, a better business neighbor and to clean up every single day (even the alley) to keep Milwaukee safe and clean.
Helen Canellos – 3623 N 62nd St – she said that she raised her family there and that it is a neighborhood in crisis because since 7 years ago they have been hearing gunshots on a regular basis even with the windows closed. Added that people that come late at night are not neighborhood people and do not behave and that few months ago a man was driving thru the alley and firing his gun at the air. Added that they have cameras in the alley and that she is so afraid to the point to throw the garbage during the day light. She asked not to renew the extended hours because nothing good happens after that and does no good to neighborhood.

Ms. Canellos said that is always at 12, 1 or 2 am.
Ms. McHenry said that she wanted to make a point that this business has been operating extended hours for long time and that the alderman’s office did not receive a complaint for this matter but for littering and loitering and asked the applicant what is his plan for it.
The applicant said that he visited the store on Friday and that everything was in place and clean and that they take their business seriously and that is why they have updated the surveillance system, have placed garbage cans outside and that they try not to make mistakes.
Ald. Borkowski said that this is not about the company but what that concerns him is that he witness two traumatized neighbors and that having a business open until 3 am bothers him. Added that does not want to single out this business but those hours are trending to represent a problem in the entire city and requested to be consistent to close at 2 am every day and that it have to start somewhere.
The applicant said that he agrees because the business is part of the community.
