240234 01.ResolutionSubstitute resolution assigning the honorary street name "Willie 'Baylew' Mitchell" to North Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive from West Ring Street to West Concordia Avenue in the 6th Aldermanic District.

Minutes note: Ms. Tiffany Tatum said City Hall presented her dad with a plaque and he has been a pillar of the community for over 50 years. He ran a basketball camp, created with Michael McGee, Sr., created job opportunities for youth, worked with after-school MPS programs and just trying to keep the kids off the streets and giving them job opportunities. Her first job was supporting his activities. A lot of the youth he worked with are doing great work in the community now. He also started an adult, midnight basketball league. His grandmother gave him the nickname. Mr. Yance Marti, Dept. of Public Works, said the department has no objections and two street signs will be required. Mr. O'Neill moved for approval, seconded by Mr. Baehr. It was approved unanimously.

240507 02.ResolutionSubstitute resolution assigning the honorary street name "Rev. Lovell Johnson, Sr." to North 16th Street from West Capitol Drive to West Vienna Avenue in the 6th Aldermanic District.

Minutes note: Mr. Benson said he knows of the family and the work that he has done so he is in support. Winnie, a resident, is opposed to an official street name change, but this is an honorary application. She didn't see any impact the church made beside being there. Mr. Benson said the church is celebrating its 150th birthday this year and they purchased a number of buildings, but Winnie is still opposed to even the honorary street naming. Mr. Benson moved, seconded by Mr. O'Neill, for approval. It was passed unanimously. Yance Marti, Dept. of Public Works, said 4 signs will be needed.

240511 03.ResolutionSubstitute resolution assigning the honorary street name "Bishop Sedgwick Daniels" to North 32nd Street from West Hampton Avenue to West Hopkins Street in the 1st Aldermanic District.

Minutes note: Deacon Antoine Reasby said Bishop Daniels passed in November 2023 and at its height, the congregation has 2500 members. Several schools and a health clinic were opened, which now includes a pharmacy and dental clinic. His influence went beyond the city, even internationally into Kenya for building schools. The entire family's mission is to give back and he was a pastor for 36 years and also served on an international church council. He believes the honorary sign will serve as a symbol of hope to residents in the area. Their current in-person attendance is about 1,800 regular attendees. Yance Marti, Dept. of Public Works, said 6 signs will be needed. Mr. Benson moved, seconded by Mr. Baehr, for approval. It was approved unanimously.
