Title
Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of a State of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Coastal Management Program Grant, in the 4th Aldermanic District.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of City Development to apply for, accept and fund a Wisconsin Coastal Management Program Grant from the State of Wisconsin in the amount of $85,000 with a City Share of $51,000 and a Grantor Share of $34,000. The purpose of this grant will be to provide funds to complete a portion of a detailed analysis for improvements to the Downtown lakefront, centered around the intersection of Lincoln Memorial Drive and Michigan Street, as recommended in the recently approved Downtown Area Plan Update.

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee (“City”) appears to be eligible for grant funds from the State of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Coastal Management Program, for a detailed analysis for improvements to the Downtown lakefront, centered around the intersection of Lincoln Memorial Drive and Michigan Street, as recommended in the recently approved Downtown Area Plan Update; and

Whereas, Recent events have brought greater attention to the lakefront study area and need for improvements, culminating in the formation of a multi-jurisdictional lakefront committee; and

Whereas, City involvement in this grant and aid program will result in a benefit to the City in the form of actions to improve a major lakefront area; and

Whereas, The operation of this Wisconsin Coastal Management Program Grant from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012 will cost $85,000 of which, $51,000 (60 percent) will be provided by the City and $34,000 (40 percent) will be provided by the Grantor; now, therefore, be it
