This resolution designates South 6th Street from West Howard Avenue to West College Avenue as “The Green Corridor.”
Body
Whereas, South 6th Street from West Howard Avenue to West College Avenue is located in the heart of the 13th Aldermanic District known as the Garden District; and

Whereas, South 6th Street runs the length of Business Improvement District #40 (Airport Gateway); and

Whereas, Business Improvement District #40 hopes to foster green business development in the area and highlight Milwaukee’s green efforts when promoting Aerotropolis Milwaukee; and

Whereas, Existing sustainable assets along South 6th Street include:

1. The community garden sponsored by the Milwaukee County University of Wisconsin-Extension at West Howard Avenue.

2 The extension of the community garden along South 6th Street from West Howard Avenue to West Plainfield Avenue sponsored by the Garden District Neighborhood Association through an agreement with Milwaukee County.

3. Sustainable boulevard signature landscape beds at West Layton and South Howell Avenues.

4. Five public plantings along South 6th Street by maintained by neighborhood associations and the development of a 10,000 - plant rain garden in Holler Park located on at 5151 South 6th Street.

5. The establishment of the Energy Exchange, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating businesses, municipalities and homeowners about stormwater best management practices sponsored by Simon Landscape, Inc. and American Rivers, a conservation organization dedicated to the protection and restoration of the nation’s rivers.

6. The maintenance of more than 7,500 square feet of permeable pavement, 4,000 square feet of green roof, 1,100 square feet of bioswales and rain gardens, and two 1,0...
